HAND OVER OF FOUR FLAGSHIP PROJECTS FUNDED BY THE NATIONAL FUND FOR THE DISABLED OF KENYA

The National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya is an endowment Fund mandated to enhance the social economic empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in Kenya. The Fund supports individuals with disabilities with assistive devices and tools of trade towards their inclusion and economic empowerment. It also supports institutions of learning for persons with disabilities through grants to meet learning needs; infrastructural development and income generation. Lastly, the Fund engages in advocacy through its programmes and also in collaboration with other stakeholders in raising awareness on disability issues in order to shape public perception on disability and lobbying for appropriate policies.
The National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya will hand over 4 new projects to institutions in Uasin Gishu County (Sosiani Autistic Primary School Special Unit and Chepkoiya Primary School) and in Kwale County (Kwale School for the Deaf and Lukore Integrated School) on 13th and 14th September 2023. This brings the number of all the projects implemented by the Fund to 199. Funding under this programme started in 2009/2010 FY and goes towards infrastructural development in the institutions of learning which take care of children with various disabilities. These programmes are in line with the NFDK strategic plan 2022-2027.

The flagship programme has been made possible through the assistance from the National Government which supplements NFDK’s rental income. The principal rationale is to construct accessible facilities that enables learners with disabilities access their right to education. Such facilities would guarantee increased enrollment, retention and enhance learning experiences to learners with disabilities.
